ComForEn 2021 – Data management in energy communities

The Eleventh Symposium Communications for Energy Systems (ComForEn 2021) took place in Vienna from November 22-23, 2021. Emphasis was placed on energy management in energy communities and how to utilise information and communication technology (ICT) in ways that promote the establishment of energy communities.

ICTs play a key role in the successful realisation of energy communities, yet the complexity involved often leads to barriers in implementation and operation. Particular attention should be paid to the legal hurdles of data processing from the very first step. Timely allocation of produced energy and the subsequent billing lead to the necessity of determining energy generation and consumption data in near real-time, which inevitably means the distribution of „personal data“ in the sense of the GDPR.
